ARGONNE ENGINEERING GOLF LEAGUE
WEEKLY STATUS
THRU 5/16/12 (Event #9)
General Notes:
1) Event
#10 (Wednesday, May 23) is league competition at
normal tee times. The contest for the event is
Highest Net. The prize is a sleeve of golf balls. League
members who have already won a weekly contest, don’t have an
established AEGL handicap, or haven’t paid their dues by May 23
are ineligible to win the contest.
2) Frank
Ress won the Event #9 contest (Lowest Net) with a net of 27
and was awarded a sleeve of golf balls.
3) George
Grey won the Event #9 competition week Peoria with a Peoria
net of 27.5. The holes from which the Peoria handicap was
determined were #2, 7, 8, 11, 16, and 17. As of this writing,
21 AEGL members are participating in the competition week
Peoria. The payout for each competition week Peoria is
$25. See the AEGL web site -
http://www.cherrywood.com/golf - or consult a league
officer for details regarding the optional competition week
Peoria for the 2012 season.
4) The AEGL
wishes to acknowledge and thank Doug Lenhart and other League
members from Argonne’s Security and Counterintelligence Division
for their donation of sleeves of golf balls with SCD logos. We
will likely use this donation as contest prizes during the 2012
season. Thanks, guys!
5) Any
members, who have not already done so, should pay their $30.00
dues for the 2012 season to Bruce Stejskal (Bldg. 401) or Phil
Calahan (Bldg. 362).
6) We are
assembling the AEGL roster for the 2012 season. If you haven’t
already done so, please inform Frank Rotella (2-3830;
fjrotella@anl.gov) whether or not you intend to join the
League for the 2012 season.
7) All
scorecards turned in during the season should include
first and last names and totaled scores. Members should
turn in their scorecards to a League officer or
to the Carriage Greens Pro Shop promptly after playing their
round.
8) AEGL officers and members usually congregate at the Sandtrap Lounge in the Carriage Greens clubhouse after golf. Those participating in dining and drinking at the group table in the Sandtrap Lounge after golf should remember to leave enough funds at the table to cover their tab including tax and tip.
9) Carriage
Greens management has agreed to allow league members to play
3 additional holes, which do not count toward league play,
as part of the greens fee. The 3 additional holes are #10,
11, and 12 if you play the front nine, and #1, 2, and 3
if you play the back nine, as long as there is no conflict
with other open play or outing. The ranger must be informed
that you plan to play 3 additional holes and will approve
the additional holes. Please do not abuse this
privilege by playing more than 3 additional holes. If you
want to play more than the 12 allowed holes, inform the cashier
in the Carriage Greens Pro Shop when you pay; the cashier will
charge you the normal twilight rate and you'll be able to play
up to 18 holes. Riding and pull carts must be returned to
the clubhouse before dusk.
10) Members should report any
problem with the league or Carriage Greens Country Club to a
league officer for remedial action.
11) Any verbal abuse of
or physical actions taken against another league member
or Carriage Greens Country Club staff will not be
tolerated and will be cause for immediate expulsion
from the AEGL.
12) As of this writing, the
following 16 members are not eligible to score points toward
league standings for Event #9 for the listed reasons. A
minimum of 3 scores submitted establishes a handicap; the number
of scores turned in is shown in parentheses. Members with
established handicaps will accrue points for Event #9 if
their dues are paid by Wednesday, May 16:

Weekly competition results, current league standings and
schedule, league rules, and other AEGL news will be posted on
the AEGL web site. You can obtain hard copies for your own use
by downloading from the AEGL web site using a web browser (e.g.,
Firefox, Netscape or Internet Explorer) and printing on your
printer. Any changes in the schedule (i.e., changes in date or
tee times) will also be communicated to league members by
electronic mail. If you have access to e-mail, make sure that
Frank Rotella (2-3830; fjrotella@anl.gov) has a current
address for you.
The scorecard containing your score must be turned in,
promptly after playing your competition event round, on
Wednesday evening to any league officer or to the Carriage
Greens Pro Shop. If it is not turned in on the
evening of the competition event, you will receive “0”
points for the competition event (NO EXCEPTIONS).
Players who were members of the AEGL last season should have
established handicaps, and new members will have
established handicaps after their third round of play
(i.e., after they have turned in 3 scorecards). Until you
have an established handicap, you will receive “0” points toward
your league standing for each competition event in which you
participate. All rounds played on league nights
will be used in handicap calculations.
There is a weekly contest, with a prize, usually a sleeve of
golf balls, awarded to the winner. Each member of the league may
win only one contest during the season. If you have
previously won a contest, do not write your name
on the placard on the contest hole so eligible players have the
opportunity to win the contest.
In the event of questionable weather conditions, you can call
one of the officers after 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday or call the
Carriage Greens Pro Shop at 630-985-3730 to determine whether or
not the league competition has been cancelled for the
evening.
If inclement weather conditions make it impossible to complete a
round, it may still be used to determine points toward your
league standing for that competition event, as long as you have
completed 5 or more holes for the round. For each hole
not completed, the score used will be the average score
for that hole from up to your 5 most recent rounds during
the 2012 season. The score from this round will not be
used in calculating your handicap.
When our normal Wednesday tee time conflicts with a scheduled
Carriage Greens event for a given week, our tee time will be
moved to a later starting time on Wednesday, with the
possibility of a “shotgun” start, or to either Tuesday or
Thursday of that week. Watch the league schedule posted on the
AEGL web site and in the Carriage Greens Pro Shop for tee time
changes; the schedule will be updated as soon as we know of any
changes.
Please share this information with members whom you know
aren’t on the AEGL e-mail distribution list. Thanks.
