Executive Vice President and General Counsel
Ms. Groel serves as Executive Vice President and General Counsel for Cherrywood. In these role she oversees Cherrywood’s legal activities, licensing and policies, as well as ethics, compliance and regulatory affairs, negotiation of funding sources and secondary sales, document creation and employee relations. She has been General Counsel since February of 2014 and was instrumental in developing the company’s state specific loan documentation and manuals. A primary part of her focus is developing solutions to streamline the customer’s legal compliance during the origination process. She provides support for nearly every loan the company makes. Ms. Groel has over 25 years of broad range legal experience with real estate, securitization and structured finance transactions and asset based lending, as well as general corporate experience. Previously, she was a capital markets and structured finance partner at a Wall Street law firm where she represented nearly every type of participant in the mortgage industry, including issuers, underwriters, credit enhancers, trustees, investors, servicers and custodians. She earned her law degree from New York University School of Law in 1988 and a B.S. in Accounting from the State University of New York at Binghamton in 1985.
